Time for a New Stove
It’s Time for a New Stove, my old stove just died and now I have to learn what the technology level is for today’s stoves. This way I can get the best stove for my money with the new available features I had not thought about since I bought my now dead stove some sixteen years ago.
Technology search
Before I could do a technology search I had to know what I needed it to do. Such as cooking a twenty-five-pound turkey, cook a larger than normal pot of meat or beans, self-clean, those kinds of things. I knew that I liked the self-cleaning feature of my old range. So the new one needed that feature.
I also knew from experience that the brand of the old stove was a good one for me so that one was also on my list. I also knew that convection oven cooking had developed and that it is a good even cooking process which speeds up the cooking time. Check that, that one goes on the list.
I also liked the ceramic or glass cooktop feature on my last stove. Add that to the list. My old stove had a storage drawer on the bottom and I always used that to store my pans. Add that to the list too. It had to be electric I didn’t want to change to gas. So electric it is. Freestanding or slide in? My old one was freestanding and I like the controls to be out of the hands of little ones. So freestanding with controls in the back goes on the list.

My Wish List
So My list started out as:
- Freestanding range with controls on the back
- My old brand of range
- Convection oven
- A large oven
- A self-cleaning oven
- A ceramic or glass cooktop
- A storage drawer
- An electric range
So I started looking at my old manufacturer’s ranges and looking for features. I noticed that they had burners that could go from small to very large. My last stove only had one large burner so this was a good thing add that to the new stove. One thing that always bugged me about my old stove was you had to look at the burners to tell if they were on. The new stove has indicator lights that tell you the burner is under power another good thing. The new method of steam clean instead of high heat clean got mixed reviews in the comments and testimonials about excess heat for steam clean models turned me away from just that feature for cleaning.

My Expanded Wish List
So my new list turned out like this:
- Freestanding range with controls on the back
- My old brand of range only had steam clean so it went away.
- Dual conventional/convection oven
- Hidden bake element
- A large oven
- A ceramic or glass cooktop
- A storage drawer
- An electric range
- Variable size burners
- A fifth warming burner
- Indicator lights for each bank of burners
- Self-cleaning selectable between high heat and steam
I went looking for such a model on the internet. Soon I found the stove with all the attributes from my above list and more. I checked the reviews on it from several internet locations and all were good.
Did not buy the latest and greatest model. I bought the model it had replaced. It had all the same bells and whistles on my list and after I found the reviews were just as good from several internet locations that sealed the deal.
I bought a top dollar model stove from the manufacturer’s factory outlet store. The warranty is still the same as the latest model. I bought a higher end model stove that had been recently replaced with an updated model for one-third less. The price of the newly replaced higher end model stove meant that I got it at near the entry level price for a current model stove. My wallet was extremely happy.
