RV roof stack vent replacement
This article is about rv roof stack vent replacement. Do you have an RV roof? I was drawn to the roof area of my daughters RV recently when she had a ventilation problem. As is the case I generally tend to try to examine everything within the area. My philosophy is if you’re there check it out, you’ll be back if you don’t. She was dealing with vents on her roof and it got me to thinking about the other problems that you find on the roof.
The Problem
That problem is the stack vents for the plumbing system. It seems that the manufacturers like to install the plastic vent stacks. These things look stylish and come in different colors. Unfortunately, they all have the same problem. The sun will rot them out in short order(every four years or so). Then you will be back on your roof replacing them again.
The Solution
I like not having to replace things on a short time line. If I have to do it once and never come back to it even better. Enter a rather old fashion looking vent stack that fits the do it once, never do it again mode. These things are great. They are metal, galvanized for rust prevention and can be painted to match your rig. But they look kind of old fashion, that seems to be their drawback. But durability wins over style in my RV world.
They are a direct replacement for the rotted plastic stack vents you have on your rig. The mounting screw pattern, however, is different. So you will have a different set of holes on the bottom flange. But the use of Butyl tape and the Dicor self-leveling lap sealant in replacing any stack vent whether plastic or metal is going to fill those old holes and prevent water infiltration.
A Review
Review of Ventline (V2084) 2″ Metal Plumbing Vent Cap
Galvanized is Forever, Plastic isn’t……..
I bought these as soon as I found them on Amazon. Problem is, the plastic counterparts are prone to becoming brittle in sunlight and eventually failing whereas these (in hot dip galvanized) will probably outlast your RV. My philosophy is why replace them more than one time, I have better things to do. An added benefit is they are tree limb proof. Tree limbs can break the plastic ones, no tree limb hit will break these.Plastic might look a bit better (asthetically) but these are much more durable.

Decisions, Decisions
So if you’re into replacement parts you can continue to replace the plastic stack vent or you can get the metal type and only have to worry about putting on a fresh coat of paint in 20 years. Hmmm, decisions, decisions?
