Review The Breakfast Club at Midtown(San Jose, CA.)
Front door emblem of The Breakfast Club
My wife wanted to go to an outdoor event in the Bay Area. It was all about glass pumpkins. Since we were going to be near our grandson we gave him a call and invited him to join us for the shopping experience and a bite to eat later on. Since he lives in the area we had him pick the place to eat. He chose The Breakfast Club in San Jose.
First thing
This place has good parking. There is a large parking garage behind the restaurant. So parking was a breeze. In fact, we parked directly behind the restaurant.
The Wait
We had to wait almost an hour for a table. Waiting on the sidewalk for a table was bearable. They provided coffee while we waited. There were a few chairs but mostly we stood during the wait.
Walking thru
We entered the restaurant thru the back door. So we had to walk thru the restaurant to register. I always like doing this kind of walk. It allows me to view the food as it is served and before I grab a chair I know whether I have made the right choice in eating establishment.
Menu
The Breakfast Club Menu
The menu was large with a good selection of breakfast, burgers, and sandwiches from which to choose.
The service
Kenex from The Breakfast Club
Our server was Kenex he provided good service and was knowledgeable about the food he was serving. I informed him that this was my first time at The Breakfast Club. I asked him to suggest a plate that was sure to bring me back for more. In other words a signature plate. He suggested the Garbage plate, Breakfast Nachos, and Steak Huevos Rancheros. He did not fail in his suggestion.
The food
The Breakfast Club at Midtown Garbage Plate yum
The food was a mixed bag. My choice was the Garbage plate as per Kenex’s suggestion. The plate was well proportioned with some decorative greens on top. This type of plate can be troublesome in that the ratio of meat and eggs to potatoes can be lopsided with their being too many potatoes and not enough meat and eggs. I found that this was not true in this case. For me, a carnivore, I found the meat and eggs ratio to all other ingredients to be more than satisfactory. My inner carnivore was very satisfied.
Everything else
As for the rest of my breakfast, this is where things became very mixed. There was a small slice of watermelon with my plate and normally at the end of watermelon season, I expected it to be sweet and juicy. This was not the case. A big disappointment. This melon must have been from South America as it tasted like first of the season type melon. Not sweet and not very juicy.
The garbage plate came with a side dish. There was the usual potato based choices and an unusual coffee cake. I being diabetic had to reject the coffee cake. But if you’re not diabetic you should really consider this option. I chose biscuit an gravy since my garbage plate already had potatoes. In this case, it was not a good choice. The biscuit was very hard and dry. I should have known better. It must have been in the warming pan since early morning(our lunch was near 12:30 pm). It was not worth the effort to eat it.
The watermelon, the biscuit, and the red “greens”
My last complaint is about the choice of decorative greens. Now understand that this is a personal preference of mine. I don’t want salad on my breakfast. A salad has its place for lunch and dinner but not breakfast in my opinion. But the plate came with some “greens” that were all red. Every one of the greens and shoots was red. I removed them and proceeded to devour the plate.
If your going
Will I be back?
I will definitely skip the biscuit and gravy. I’ll also be sure to order my breakfast without greens. You bet I’ll be back, I can hardly wait to try out those breakfast nachos. Thanks, Kenex.
