Review John’s Char Burger
Lunch at John’s Char Burger
I had late lunch at John’s Char Burgers recently. The wife and I were in Livermore and wanted to expand our lunch places. I had been looking at places that were ranking high for Livermore lunch hot spots. John’s Char Burger came up several times and when I mentioned it to my wife she whole hardly agreed that this was a place we should try. She had a friend, unknown to me, that was raving about this place. So after our errand, it’s off to John’s Char Burgers.
If you want to eat here you have many options from a lunch type menu. With burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and a few dinner type plates. Definitely “old school” so when you step thru the door don’t be looking for healthy. These are burger’s, fries, shakes that the locals rave about. They are a guilt-free indulgence.

Go to the right door
When we first entered the place we walked into the take-out side of the building. We wanted to sit down to lunch. I looked in the order window and saw the tables and chairs and counter. It seems that John’s Char Burgers has two doors. One door for the dine-in crowd and another for the pickup and takeout crowd.
The wait staff
When we walked in the dine-in side we were told to pick a table and they would bring out the menus. Very casual. We seated ourselves that’s when Tina brought over the menus and told us about a better table that would be more comfortable. Tina was a big help for this whole process. I am always the last to order as I always take the longest to decide on what I want to eat. I told Tina that I was wavering between the open-faced chili burger and the pastrami sandwich. She suggested the chili burger so that’s what I got. A few raw onions on the top and some Tabasco to top it off and my order was completed. I later found out that Tina had been working at John’s for the past 37 years, WOW!
The ambiance
This place is a dump. Now don’t take me wrong. It is definitely not your In-N-Out Burger place. It’s been here a long time. But I’m not eating off the walls or taking a slice off the peeling paint. I am telling you now, that when you come here, come for the food, not the building. I was there for the hamburger and it did not disappoint.

My chili burger
My chili burger was definitely old school. It had that old-time chili taste and texture. Something that I love. The raw onions were a little skimpy but my personal preference is always a lot of onions. The amount of food presented for the dollars spent(less than 8 dollars) is equitable.
