The pumice stone and hard water buildup cleaning
The pumice stone and hard water buildup on toilets go hand in hand. I have hard water and no cleaner I had tried would clean the ring off the toilet. It was quite frustrating thinking I would need to use a strong acid on the toilet just to clean away that lime buildup.
Do you have hard water? If you do there will be build up in your sinks and toilets. Anywhere water stands and slowly evaporates away leaving behind lime(calcium) build up.
Limescale is the hard, off-white, chalky deposit found in kettles, hot-water boilers and the inside of inadequately maintained hot-water central heating systems. It is also often found as a similar deposit on the inner surface of old pipes and other surfaces where “hard water” has evaporated.

Protective Equipment
Always wear protective clothing or gloves when dealing with bleach or other toilet cleaners. Move mats away from the toilet, and be sure to ventilate the bathroom when working with any caustic chemicals. More information about bleach use precautions.
Review on Pumice Stick
Recently I had two bathrooms remodeled. It didn’t take long before I noticed stained rings around my new commodes. I honestly can say I tried just about every product on the market to clean the ever-increasing ring around. Then I read about this scouring stick. I was hesitant at first to even order this stick for fear of damaging my new commodes. Finally, I thought what do I have to lose. This scouring stick has been able to do what brand cleaners could not. And, it is so easy. No chemicals, no strong odors. You simply rub the stain and almost like magic it disappears. I really do not under-stand why such a product does not appear on store shelves.

Let’s make this clear. There two types of pumice stones, ones for cleaning toilets etc. and others used on the body to remove dried skin. This article is not about the dried skin variety. Cleaning using a pumice stone is quick. No caustic cleaners, no soaking, only elbow grease is needed.
The video above gives you a good tip on the method of using the pumice stone. Using the chipping method he demonstrates does work best. If you want to put some distance between your hand and the stone there are pumice stones with a handle.
Advantages of pumice stone
Using a pumice stone has its advantages. The stone is all natural it’s lava rock after all. No caustic chemicals are needed to clean the lime build-up from the toilet. The stone is softer than the toilet but harder than the limescale so this method of cleaning works well. It is a rather quick cleaning method compared to soaking the buildup in chemicals. Because it is a rock it is safe around children and pets.
