Not Quilting at a Quilt Show

Not quilting at a quilt show. You’re not a quilter? You may want to go to a quilt show.
Cookies, Miracle Ironing board cover, Spices and Flavorings, Knives, tools, and a lot more there’s a lot more than quilts at the quilt show.

I have always assumed that a quilt show would have vendors that are supporting quilters through many products that go into a quilting project. Boy was I wrong.

A non-quilter at the quilt show

I had to go to another quilt show recently. My sister and my wife always assume that I am the “designated driver” at all such events that they wish to attend. I get sucked into these events by getting to choose where we will have lunch no questions. It’s just that simple.

I began to think that there are so many other things at these quilt shows that are not quilt related so why not let others know what’s there. So let’s see what non-quilter type product that you can find at a quilting show.

Kitchen Knives

Donny a Cutco Representative

Let’s start out with some cold hard steel. How about quality American made kitchen knives. I learned about kitchen knives at a quilt show from a very knowledgeable representative at a quilt show in Fresno, California. The vendor’s name is Donny and he was very personable and well knowledged in the product he is selling. What I found unique about this product is the outstanding customer support. What is it? Well they will come to your home to sharpen your Cutco knives or you can mail them in, it’s up to you. Coming to your home to sharpen your Cutco knives for life blew my mind. While I am at the booth several ladies were talking about their great experiences with this company.

Spices and Flavorings

Along with the kitchen knives, I found a distributing vendor who has been selling Watkins spices and flavorings at quilting shows for more than twenty years. The people behind these flavorings and spices are a really nice couple, Joanne, and Leonard Marshall. They can be reached at http://www.respectedhomebusiness.com/10150

Tools

How about tools and other things to make work much easier.  I always assumed that the only tools needed for a sewing machine would be basic. A screwdriver and a small adjustable wrench are all that is needed.  But as I looked over the tool selection it dawned on me that the tools available at the quilt show are more than basic. They are smaller versions of a good selection of wrenches and different types of pliers. Also, a good selection of the tools was for working on items that are very small and in need of magnification and illumination. Something that I have found more need of as I have grown older.

Ironing board Covers

One item I found interesting is the Miracle Ironing Board Cover. What drew me to this was a person ironing and ironing and ironing. I thought what a way to spend a day, ironing? Then I noticed the sign and picked up on the word “Miracle”. I had to stop by and find out what made this ironing board cover a “miracle”? I soon found out why. If you’re curious and need more information and can’t wait for a quilt show here is their website.

Orthotics and shoes

This is as far away from quilts as you can get but there she was, Barbara Wagner Orthotic Technician. She checks out your feet and has the products to get the old spring back into your step. If you have questions she can be reached by email:  Click here to email Barbara Wagner

Cookies and Candies

My last vendor find was a booth that had cookies and candies already prepared and ready to consume. Welcome to Terri Sue’s Toffee. If I were not diabetic I would have stepped up to sample a package or two. The chocolate chip cookies looked absolutely amazing. My loss is your gain.

The last word

Now a word about the vendor variety. I found more vendors not mentioned in this article, women’s clothing, alpaca clothing, scarfs, beads, folding tables vendors and more. I found that not every show is attended by all these vendors. So if you choose to attend you may find them all or you may only find a few. But one thing I can guarantee is that if you attend a quilt show you will definitely see more than quilts. You’ll be not quilting at a quilt show.
