My trip to Chukchansi Indian Casino 08/05/16
This is a review of my trip to Chukchansi Indian Casino near Coarse Gold, CA.. My wife and my sister and my brother in law and I took a trip to Chukchansi Indian Casino. We had been to the casino many times in the past but this trip was special.
The casino, closed for a long time had recently opened up. This due to some internal strife among the tribal members.
Getting There
We decided to take the bus there since it is a short trip to the casino. The bus makes it really nice as I don’t have to drive and the cost of getting on the bus($15 per person) is refunded in five dollars for a meal voucher and ten dollars in play.
We usually like to go there to eat as they used to have a great buffet. Well let’s start with the bus trip, shall we? The bus was run by the same organization that had operated before the closing. So the service and comfort level was the same. A good start to the trip. There was one change. It used to take ten dollars to get on the bus. Five dollars for a meal voucher and five dollars in play.
When we got there the place has changed. The arrival desk is no longer close to the entry doors like before. It is now located deep within the casino. So we had to walk further into the casino to get our voucher and money for play entered into our casino ID cards. I noticed that the casino was really empty for a weekend(Friday). Getting our vouchers and play added to our casino ID cards went smoothly as before.
The Buffet
We usually like to eat before going to the casino floor so we went directly to the Buffet and waited for it to open. A short time later it opened up and we were in line for a good meal. We presented our vouchers(my wife and I) and paid the difference in the total price. It was a pleasant surprise that the total price had dropped by almost five dollars from the before closing price.
What’s new?
They seated us and another difference reared up. In the past, the wait staff would take our drink order while we filled our plates. This time there was a very large drink dispensing area. Coffees, hot cocoa, soft drink, and juices were clearly visible. An extra dollar will buy beer and wine by the glass.
Unfortunately, the food items in the buffet took a hit to install the drink dispensing area. Gone were the large array of Mexican food items. Gone was the breakfast items. The Italian and Pizza bars were still there. The salad bar items were a mere shadow of the before closing items. The Chinese food bar was still there and plentiful. The custom-made stir-fry bar was still in place.
The dessert bar was still there. A delightful surprise, they had organized the sugar-free items. There were more of them than before.
There appeared to be fewer wait staff and food line workers. My brother-in-law tried to get them to refill the cold shrimp at the salad bar to no avail. He waited for more than thirty minutes with no positive results.
The food was hot and fresh. The over salted guacamole had a bit too much lime juice. The meats were tender and tasty. The shrimp at the salad bar had to be shelled. I had the fajitas and they were tasty and hot. The sugar-free desserts were a welcome surprise.
Sugar-Free Desserts
The Cherry pie was tasty if missing a few cherries. The sugar-free cheesecake was in the New York style. There were sugar-free apple pie and four or five different varieties of sugar-free cookies. Two flavors of sugar-free gelatin rounded out the lineup.
There are plenty of desserts.
We finished our meal with about 2 hours to finish our gambling. The gaming floor was empty. The before closing gaming crowds have yet to materialize. At the end of our gaming time, there was one winner and it wasn’t me. As for my return, I don’t believe that I will return in the near future. I considered the buffet as the crown jewel and it is no longer. If you like an uncrowded casino then this is the place for you. As for me, another Casino has a better buffet and looser penny slots.
