How to clean a glass cooktop
How to clean a glass cooktop is an easy thing to do.
Razor Blade Scrapers with Single-Edge Blades – Amazon.com
- Sprinkle some water and dish soap on the cold cooktop for lubrication.
- Scrape the cold cooktop with a razor blade scraper to get the cooked on stuff off the cooktop. Using the scraper, with a low angle to the surface so as not to accidentally scratch or gouge the surface is the best method.
- Clean up any scrapings and run your finger along the outside edge of the burner surface feeling for anything that the scraper may have missed.
- How sensitive is your finger?
- Spread a good cooktop cleaner/polishing crème around the biggest most used burner of your cooktop. I use a wet green scrubbing pad but if you want something a little less aggressive, try a Dobie Pad to remove any remaining gunk from around the burner. Then I spread the cleaner/polish to the rest of the cooktop and finish scrubbing the entire cooktop.
- Clean off the cleaner/polish and use an old towel to buff the cooktop to a nice shine.
Will My Pots and Pans Scratch The Cook Top?
The first question I had when we got a glass cooktop was will my current pots and pans scratch the top or worse chip it or break it. Here is that same question and comments about the question.
Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner – Amazon.com
I could say that the cooktop will be fine. Just don’t start throwing the skillets and cookers around like they are aluminum but I thought that these two comments say it best.
So there you have it. I have and only use cast iron skillets, griddle, and a comal on my glass cooktop. I deep clean the cooktop from time to time and it is holding up beautifully.
Scotch-Brite Heavy Duty Scour Pads – Amazon.com
