Homemade tortillas
How would you like to have homemade tortillas on hand every day? Tortillas that are so simple and easy to make you might choose to make them instead of buying tortillas at the store.
Having fresh tortillas on hand is a memory burned into my brain. My mother would make a large stack of them every few days. The smell of freshly made tortillas permeating the air in the kitchen with its sweet perfume. My sister and I anxiously waiting for the first tortillas with a fresh pat of butter to be consumed. The fresh tortillas soft and still warm from the comal along with the melted butter is a treat we could not pass up.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup baking mix
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp. salt
Directions
Combine all the dry ingredients. Add the water until the dough forms and is pliable. Knead for approximately 10 minutes and form into balls. Flour the rolling surface and roll out the balls of dough one at a time to desired thickness. Cook in a cast iron fry pan or on a griddle set on medium heat. Do not overcook as they will dry out quickly. Cover the cooked tortillas to reduce drying. Store any remaining tortillas in a plastic bag.
