Get The Best CBD Oil For Your Dog
How do you get the best CBD oil for your dog? What’s important to know when choosing CBD oil for dogs? Well, it’s really very simple. Let’s look at the four things you’ll need to make the best decision for your best friend.
- Dog size in weight
- CBD oil strength in the bottle
- Dosage
- Flavoring
Dog size
Dog size(measured in weight) matters since not all CBD oil in the bottle is the same strength. It goes without saying, bigger dogs are going to require more CBD oil than smaller dogs. Keep this in mind when looking at the CBD strength in the bottle.
Liquids or Chews?
There are liquids and chews with CBD oil but if you want to give your dog a precisely controlled dosage it is best to stick to the liquids(tincture) as it is easier to control the dosage.
Customer Review
Our 12 1/2 year old Husky was suffering with arthritis to the point that he could not stand for any amount of time with out being in pain. After the third day of taking this product he is walking without pain and actually opens his mouth when it is time to take it. His life has been extended by this as we were close to making the hardest decision an owner has to make as we could not stand him being in so much pain. It snowed this week and he actually was hopping in the snow when he first saw it. This was an experience that I never thought to see again.
Oil strength in the bottle
The first thing you will notice when shopping for this stuff is that the bottles are one ounce or maybe two-ounce containers. But that there is a secondary number near the container’s volume. This second number created confusion for me when I first went shopping for this product. This second number is the actual strength of the “active” product(in this case the CBD oil).
The first product that we purchased for our dog was actually a very low strength product. So for our small dog, the dosage was quite large. The first bottle lasted about a month. The second time I went shopping for CBD oil I was looking at this second number and looking for a stronger product knowing that I would be giving my dog less of it at each feeding.
The second bottle we bought would last more than three months. Both bottles were one-ounce volume containers. But due to the CBD oil strength difference between bottles I was able to get far more dosages.
Dosage
The dosage for each dog is going to be different. Dog size, what you’re trying to treat and CBD oil strength all will play a role in the amount you feed your dog.
Dosage is expressed in drops. The CBD oil bottles come with a dropper to help dispense the product. You can serve it on the dog’s tongue(it will get into the bloodstream faster this way) or you can mix it with food. Look for a dosage chart. It may be on the bottle, box or website. The chart is specific to the amount of CBD oil in the product and the dog’s size. This chart should give you a good starting point.
Since I have a non-picky eater and he doesn’t like to take pills unless they are wrapped in cheese, I added the drops to the top(no mixing) of his wet food. The food bowl is always licked clean in short order.
Duke’s dosage
For my dog, the dosage chart recommendation was ten drops twice a day on the first bottle of CBD oil. For the second bottle(four times stronger), I gave my dog a conservative dose of two drops once per day to start. I upped his dosage after several days to three drops(my plan was to up the dosage every third day in small steps) once per day. At that dosage, his personality started to emerge and I could tell he was feeling better. That’s where I kept his dosage level. I only pass on his story as an example of how I got him to a good dosage for his problem.
Dispensing
Getting the oil ready for dispensing is pretty simple.
- Squeeze the bulb for the dropper and hold it closed.
- Shake the bottle to make sure that the product is thoroughly mixed.
- Let go the of the dropper bulb and allow it to fill
- Hold the dropper very near horizontal while dispensing.
- Very slowly apply pressure to the bulb and start counting the drops until you reach your desired number.
Another minor thing
CBD oil can have a flavoring added to it. Some have a mint flavor which I would consider if I were taking it. But do dogs like a nice fresh minty breath? I don’t know, do you? Check if it is flavored before purchasing.
There you have it. All the information you really need to get the best CBD oil for your dog.
