The Dog House Grille
The Dog House Grille. I was recently in Fresno, Ca. to wrap up some business. So after a long day we finally got to have some lunch. I had recently been to another barbecue restaurant in the area after first coming here and finding it absolutely swamped with people. After last time I had it in my mind to absolutely dine at The Dog House Grille on this trip no matter what.
On my previous trip, I had done some research on barbecue joints in the area. I had boiled it down to two places on my short list. The first place I had visited on my last trip. The visit to The Dog House Grille would be the other one on my list. So my wife and I drove to the restaurant confident that we could get in due to the time(around 4:30 pm).
Seating, Full Service, Self-Service
On our arrival, we noticed that the place had a sign in front that showed how the restaurant was divided. It turns out that there are two areas in the restaurant. One is full service and the other is the self-service area. On top of that, it turns out that the whole place is self-seating. In other words, if you can find a seat help yourself.
We sat in the full-service area which is a large area and includes the bar. The place can be noisy as there is not much of anything in the one large room other than seating. Several televisions and the bar round out the décor.
The two places had one thing in common. The Yelp reviews on both places were mostly about the tri-tip sandwiches. A lot of the reviewers would choose one restaurant over the other based on the sandwich of their choice. I made it my mission to see who was right in these bragging results. I had ordered the tri-tip on my last visit so I ordered it again here at The Dog House Grille.
The tri-tip sandwich is reasonably priced. It is what I call a meat sandwich. It is bread and meat with a barbecue sauce. There is an adequate amount of meat on the sandwich. The meat is smoked with a nice smoke ring on the meat. It is tender and flavorful. The bread is up to the task of containing the meat and added sauce. The sauce I would call sweet and spicy(not hot).
