Deep Cleaning Glass Top Patio Furniture
My to-do list came up with deep cleaning glass top patio furniture recently. I had to clean a glass top table that had sat out in the weather due to my patio cover being replaced. The glass top accumulated a lot of dirt in the time it took to replace the patio cover.
I tried the usual soap and water. The stuff was definitely stuck on. It didn’t completely clean off the built-up material. I went with the “big guns” next and grabbed a bottle of glass cleaner determined to remove that built up material. The results were not good the material was still there after it had dried. That’s when the idea struck me.
My Idea
I clean my ceramic cooktop often of build up that has cooked onto the surface of the cooktop. I think that material that has cooked on would be harder to remove than something that has built up over time. Why not use some of those methods and materials for cleaning the cooktop to clean this glass top patio table.
How I did it
I started by using water as a lubricant and a razor blade scraper. I sprayed the table top and used the scraper. Gently scraping the surface with a little pressure should clean the surface and reduce any chances of accidental scratches.
The best practice using the razor blade scraper is to have the blade angle very low to the table top surface. This way there is little chance of scratching the surface. Did I mention that I did not want to scratch the table top and ruin its surface? Some of the material came off but not all. But this was encouraging.
The secret weapon
My last step was to use the ceramic cooktop cleaner to polish the glass and remove the last buildup from its surface. I normally use the ceramic cooktop cleaner with a green scrub pad regularly to clean the last bits of cooked on stuff off the cooktop surface. A couple of small squirts of the cleaner along with some water to provide some lubrication and some gentle rubbing with a rag(this is glass and not ceramic so I chose cloth because this could be a softer material) finally removed the last of the buildup. The end result was that the glass polished up to like new.
The results
I can tell you that the table was very clean when I finished. The surface felt so smooth to my touch. I am sure that there was nothing but glass left on that tabletop.
